Organizational structure defines how job tasks are formally divided, grouped, and coordinated. (Robbins, pg. 494). At my job the organizational structure is standard for a large company. We have multiple departments that do different things. We have a planning department, clerical department, relay department, dock department, and so on. Each department needs one another to run the company successful. For example, the relay department depends on the planning department and they depends on the dock department. The relay department deals directly with the drivers. This department takes the drivers paper work, check them in, and send them on their next job assignment. 1). We have very little conflict at my job. It is a male dominant workforce. We have three of four females apart of the dock department. Every once in a while we get two dockworkers arguing about something silly. As a manager, I make sure I get in touch with Shift Operation Manager. Together we resolve the conflict by separating the two dockworkers and hearing both sides of the story. Then, we work on a solution together. Once we talk to both of them. We have them apology to one another and send them back to work.
Organization Environment
As far as the environment goes, it is positive and negative at times. At my job our work force is a part of a union. The environment is negative as long the contract negotiations are going on and dock workers are receiving a lot of letters. When these things are going on you have union representatives conducting union business all day long. A lot of union representatives are dealing with discipline issues or payroll issues. The workforce morale is usually low, and productivity is low as well. The environment is positive at the beginning of the week. We have a planning department, relay department, dock department, and so on. We do have a chain of command at my job. We receive all of our goals from an outside manager. Our goals start at the top and work down to the bottom. As a company we do not experience a lot of conflict. Our employees have been around one another for twenty years or more. Last but not least, organizational environment it can be positive and it can be negative depending on what is going on at our facility at the time.
