A butterfly valve is a valve which can be used for regulating flow. A butterfly valve is a flow control device that has a varied applications in the field of piping industries and firefighting applications. Not only it is simple in design but also has low cost, fast closing and opening times, and it is generally favored as they give low head loss in the fully opened position. Butterfly valves are as shown in Fig. 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.
The butterfly valve consists of a disc that is present at the center of the pipe and a rod passes through the disc which is connected to the actuator present on the outside of the valve. As the actuator rotates, the disc turns either parallel or perpendicularly to the flow. The head loss …show more content…
The commercial CFD code Fluent and the standard K-ε turbulence selected model was used for the study. The simulations provided insight into the flow field characteristics of the valve. The valve performance factors such as the flow coefficient and hydrodynamic flow coefficient were computed for different valve opening angles. The results demonstrated the importance of CFD as a valuable tool in visualizing the complex structures in the flow of fluid in the valve. The hydrodynamic torque coefficient curve was computed at different valve opening angles, and the angle at which maximum torque coefficient occurs was identified …show more content…
Various turbulent models were tried with various grid densities to tune up the approach that would result in most proximate predictions with the experimental results.

Graph 3.1 and Graph 3.2 shows the comparison of simulated results with the experimental results. It can be clearly observed that predictions using k-ε model for different valve opening angle. The numerical approach resulted in most proximate results to that of experimental result of valve opening 55° and 1 m/s velocity.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
A numerical analysis of a butterfly valve using computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT has been used to analysis the fluid field and study the various parameter like flow velocity, Static pressure and turbulence intensity for a various valve closing angle of 0, 20, 30,55,75,90 degree and different inlet velocity and the values become0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 m/s.
