Using evidence base-research on the topic to support CAUTI will support the reason behind the need for a CAUTI team. Gathering a number of evidence-based researches will present a strong case on the benefits of early catheter removals. Statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention can be presented to show the number of complications and preventable deaths related to CAUTI. It is estimated that each year, more than 13,00 deaths are linked to UTI and 93,300 to UTIs in acute care setting (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).

She is a new NP that is very passionate about making an impact on the unit. We discussed ways to make rounds and what type of data to use when making our rounds. A work sheets that list patient information and whether a Foley was present can be included. If there is a check mark to whether the patient has a Foley then other columns can include; technique used in the Foley insertion, hand hygiene used prior to insertion and the reason for its usage is given. Members for team sign up for the task to come in on their off days. When members make their round on different units, they can stop by each room and do a Foley assessment.
