In the modern world, “art” has come to encompass many of the humanities. From dancing to cooking, almost anything can be considered an art if it involves some portion of originality. However, in the past, artists were a group of “artisans,” where “art” means to “join” or “fit together”; those we think of as artists today thought of themselves as other words then, such as “poet” or “playwright.” Deresiewicz also purports that artists often “trained intensively in one discipline.” Now, their skills are varied, and they have a “multiplicity of artistic identities (Deresiewicz, 2015). Chris Brown is a well-known example of this. Primarily considered a music artist, he has produced nine albums of music and five mixtapes (non-studio produced albums), creating over 100 songs. However, he also dances extremely well, often electing to have a dance break over singing during certain parts of his live concerts. And on top of this, he is able to paint. A song of the future bass genre, it is characterized by bass and synthesizers. Also featured are arpeggios, where chords are broken into multiple notes over time. Music of this genre often focuses on the melody, versus other types of electronic music that focus on bass aspects instead. What this has to do with the song specifically is that it accents the mood of the song, which imparts an elated sense of being. One of the many forms of “new” art, this music is striking through its multiple drops (rhythm changes), individual through the specific styles that Illenium and Gryffin have, and “business” exists through the music being applied to many commercial aspects. It has been bought by many people, played at raves, etc. Though Benjamin would not like that the song is easily reproducible, Rosen would completely support it, as the song is spread to more people. Rawsthorn and Deresiewicz would also see a non-visual form of art, with even the process of creating the music being considered an art form.
