1. Based on the information provided, the left atrium and left ventricle are not working properly due to mitral valve not working appropriately. The reason this set of valves was chosen is because in the passage, it stated that the X-Ray show an enlargement in the left atrium and left ventricle. This happen is due to inefficient cycle of blood resulting in abnormal heart sound or heart murmur. Mitral valve of the left side is misshape and less flexible.…
Heart Failure- (Patho Statement) Heart failure is complex and caused by a number of conditions. Ventricles are the main pumping chambers of the heart. Dysfunction can occur in the right side, left side, or both sides. This impairment can also affect the pumping efficiency of the heart. This damage can be measured by the ejection fraction of the heart.…
The current scope of the cardiac program at CMH include emergency room staffed and equipped for treatment of cardiac emergencies, an eight-bed coronary care unit, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac rehabilitation. The current staffing of the cardiac program include one invasive cardiologist and three internists that specialized in treatment of heart diseases. A second invasive a cardiologist and another noninvasive cardiologist are expected to join the staff this coming year. However, CMH does not currently have a cardiac surgeon. There is a cardiac surgeon fellow who is hoping to come work as a cardiac surgeon at CMH, if the CON for the open-heart surgery program is approved.…
A special type of synthetic tissue is then cut up by suregons and sewn to the atora (artery to the body) and the pulmonary artery (artery to the lungs) This synthetic is used to help connect the artificial heart to the remaning parts the natural heart. The artificial heart is then placed into the chest and connected by quick connects which are similar to little snaps. Once this has all been sucsessfuly completed the patient is taken off th Heart-lung machine and the surgical team checks that heart is working…
• Antibiotic medicines to prevent infections. Defective heart valves are more prone to infection. • Open heart surgery. This may be needed to repair or replace the mitral valve. • Percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty.…
This failure is due to the progressive thickening and lengthening of the leaflets that compose the mitral valve causing them to bulge (prolapse) upward into the left atrium. This prolapse can allow blood to backflow into the atrium (regurgitation). MVP is most commonly caused by abnormally stretchy valve leaflets and will affect approximately 2% of the general population. Individuals with MVP are often asymptomatic but can sometimes face life-threatening side effects, such as a stroke or myocardial infarction, if regurgitation forms a blood clot. (AHA, 206)…
Pan-systolic murmurs are pathological in nature. Mitral regurgitation happens when the mitral valve do not completely close and flow back into the left atrium. Tricuspid regurgitation occurs when there is a back flow into the right atrium; this is a common cause that results in pulmonary hypertension. Ventricular septal defect is a congenital abnormality where there is a hole in the septum allowing blow flow from the left ventricle into the right ventricle. Diastolic murmurs suggestive of heart disease of an ineffectual aortic valve.…
San Rafael, Calif: Morgan and Claypool. The authors of this book had a primary purpose of creating a reference book or a textbook for graduate and senior undergraduate students in biomedical engineering or biotechnology programs. It provides cardiac tissue engineering strategies, research directions, and applications. It also provides a detailed diagram of the heart and cardiac muscle structure. Medical professionals in cardiology can use this source to acquire cardiac tissue engineering approaches and alternatives.…
Prosthetic valve implantation requires postoperative prophylactic anticoagulation to preclude thrombotic events; which are the common cause for morbidity and mortality after surgery for VHD. A paramount risk of thromboembolic events is observed during the first three months after surgery for both mechanical and bioprosthetic devices. Nevertheless, mechanical valves exhibit life time thrombotic risk. Atrial fibrillation, which is a common arrhythmia in VHD, necessitates lifelong anticoagulation in majority of patients; especially if it involves mitrial valve. Therefore, patients on anticoagulants are at risk of thrombosis and bleeding, if the target INR levels are not maintained.…
If heart valve disease is causing the heart murmurs, treatment may include medications or surgery. Valve replacement or valve repair surgery are two treatment options for severely damaged or diseased valves. The pediatric cardiologist can recommend the appropriate type and timing of treatment, based on the child's age,…
When I was a few weeks old, my parents realized that I was not normal. I would not drink my bottle and I seemed to have a blue tint around my lips. Concerned, my parents took their precious firstborn to the hospital, where the doctors made a discovery that transformed not only my life, but the lives of everyone. What my family learned on this dramatic day was that I was born with heart disease.…
Causes of (CHF) Causes of congestive heart failure can be from any conditions that will weaken or cause…
Though heart failure can occur suddenly, weakening of the heart is more likely to slowly develop over a period of time, often over many years as the heart becomes weaker and is unable to work as efficiently, which is why is it more prominent in the elderly population. Typically conditions and diseases that damage or overwork the heart lead to congestive heart failure. The major conditions and factors that cause congestive heart failure include: • Coronary artery disease • Heart valve disease • High blood pressure • Hypertension • Valve conditions • Cardiomyopathy • Diabetes • Alcohol abuse • Smoking Coronary artery disease, also known as ischaemic heart disease, results from the gradual blocking of the coronary artery by fatty deposits called plaque. The coronary artery is the artery that supplies blood to the heart, damaging it…
The author focuses on the coronary heart disease. His article starts by giving an introduction about the heart’s structure and function. It explains briefly that heart is a muscle as the same size of adult human fist. Its main function is to pump oxygen-rich blood around the body. Circulation process starts when blood leaves the heart by going to the lungs.…
Rheumatic heart disease is a major cause of valvular lesions. Mitral and aortic valves are the most affected valves. Rheumatic valve disease can lead to either valvular stenosis or more commonly valvular regurgitation. Severe cases with valvular lesions require surgical intervention. Several Factors influencing decisions for choice of surgical procedure including patient age, gender, access to medication and access to on-going care and follow-up.27 Surgical treatment of valve disease includes either valve repair or valve replacement surgery.…
