This is Carmen Lomas Garza a Chicana artist who depicts a cultural lifestyle of your everyday Hispanic family. Garza’s artwork places me in a trance of my own life as a child and now as an adult. Her paintings take me to a wonderful place which is mi familia. Slide 2

This painting is known as Empanads. A Hispanic family is depicted around the kitchen table diligently working on creating a delicious batch of empanadas and of course it wouldn’t be right if everyone got a little taste of heaven while preparing the empanadas. This painting represents the unity of family and how it important it is within the culture to be together and to be able to create with our own hands. I smile every time I see this image because my children really enjoy eating empanadas.

In this painting we see a family BBQ where Garza is again emphasizing on the unity of the family and how after a rough work week we still find time to enjoy a meal which has been prepared by our own hands and with a lot of love for the sake of the family and those who we look at as family such as friends and neighbors. This again takes us back to our roots of family
