Background
Communication of Patient Information by Sharon Saracino & Sharon B. Buchbinder (Buchbinder and Shanks, 2017) is a case study regarding a patient named Margaret Burns who’s is 63-years-old and has suffered for stroke. After receiving acute care hospitalization, Margaret was placed in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility to recover from her stroke (2017).
Problem Statement Margaret Burns who should be recovering in the skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility has developed pain and swelling in her right leg. Carol is running late that day due to getting a flat tire and has already fallen behind at work. In addition, Carol learns at work that her son missed the bus and is now trying to arrange transportation for her son. While Carol is trying to get her son transportation Margret’s ambulance arrives and Carol rushes to put together the “current lab results, physician notes, nurses’ notes, and medication administration records” so they can be sent to the hospital (Buchbinder and Shanks, 2017, p. 571). Carol gives Margret’s information to the ambulance crew so they can get to the hospital with Margret. If there was more staff in charge of discharging patients Carol would have not been in such a rush when she got to work. Carol was doing a lot of things at once and because of that she was not paying attention to what she was doing. If there was another employee who also is in charge of discharging patients Carol would have been able to take care of her tire and son properly.
