It makes no sense for the British diplomats to offer the same peace of land to two different ethnic, cultural and religious groups. The British government offered an independent state of Palestine to the Jewish people through the Balfour Declaration. The Balfour declaration is essentially the British Government giving full support for an independent state of Palestine to be a home for the Jewish people. During the dispute about who gets an independent state of Palestine, the Jewish people declared independence of the state Palestine region and thus creating a state of Israel in 1948. The four neighboring states of Israel; Syria, Transjordan, Egypt and Iraq all declared war on the new Jewish state of Israel. The goal of the Arab states was to either halt Zionist expansion in that region or reverse the Zionist expansion. Both the Israel state and the Arab states did not truly know the strength of the opposite army, and thus did not understand the cost of war. In International Relations, the reason why many states fail at bargaining or fail at cooperating is because they lack information about the consequences or rewards. The Arab-Israel war should have been a war without any costs, and thus many people believed that Arab states would have won. At the end of the war, the state of Israel had been victorious and the Arab League was defeated. The are many reasons to why four Arab states were unable to win the war, but the most notable reason is that they were no equipped for battle. These Arab states are not only new independent states, but were also states that had never gone to war making them such a weak opponent. In 1949, Israel after winning the war, signed several armistice agreements with its neighboring Arab states to halt the conflict between them. Yet at the same time, Israel was pushing Palestinians out of that region and refusing to let them come back to their homes that they fled.
