Being judgmental doesn’t necessarily mean labeling a person as good or bad although it comes off that way, but judgmental also means when he or she makes an opinion about someone after watching them closely. Nurses often see the patient before the doctor does, so being judgmental towards he or she is not acceptable or professional on any level. When being a nurse he or she will see several different patients throughout the day and will have to make the right decision on how and when to treat them. However, by being a judging nurse towards your patient can cause he or she to not make the right choice because they may think that the patient is being dramatic, joking around, or being a hypochondriac just by observing their behavior/demeanor, or how they are presenting themselves not realizing that there is a deeper meaning to the situation. In the field of nursing being compassionate is one of the several important things he or she needs to have in order to be successful. By a nurse showing compassion towards her patient helps he or she relax, and be confident in the nurse because she is showing them that she cares and that she wants to help him or her as much as possible.
