I Purpose The purpose of this experiment was to test and see how four different chemical reaction worked. The four different chemical reactions are formation, decomposition, single-replacement, and double-replacement. The hypothesis of this experiment was that in each of the different reactions something would happen to the reactant whether it be color, mass, temperature, or pressure.
II Equipment For this experiment Late Nite lab was used. In Late Nite Lab the equipment was: a balance, a crucible, a Bunsen Burner, a 150 mL Erlenmeyer flask, a thermometer, a pressure gauge, a syringe, two 50 mL beakers, magnesium (Mg), Copper(II) Carbonate Hydroxide Hydrate (Cu2CO3(OH)2 x H2O,) 6M Hydrochloric acid (HCl), Zinc (Zn), …show more content…
Then a crucible was placed on the balance and the mass was measured and recorded. Then the crucible was removed from the balance and 5 g of Mg was added to the crucible. Then the crucible was placed on the balance again and the mass was measured recorded. Then a Bunsen Burner was placed on the workbench and the crucible was placed on the Bunsen Burner. The Bunsen Burner was placed on a low flame and the crucible was left there for about two minutes. Then the crucible was taken off and left to cool for about two more minutes and then it was placed on the balance one final time and the mass was measured and recorded. Then everything was cleaned …show more content…
The hypothesis was correct when it states that in each of the experiments the substance would change somehow. In experiment 1 showing formation reaction the substance did change by gaining mass and the mass was increases by 3.289 g. Then in experiment 2 showing decomposition reaction the substance not only change by losing mass by 1.673 g. but it also changes color from green to black. For experiment 3 showing single-replacement reaction but the temperature and pressure increase with the reaction. Finally, in the double-displacement reaction the substance changed color from clear to green and a precipitate
