Where factories was essential in the production of weapons for all of it’s soldiers; such as, swords, rifles, and cannons. Though, the Confederates, lacked these resources, as to North having 85% of factories throughout the country, and the South having only 15%, having a scarce amount on these crucial resources (“Facts of the Civil War” 1). Therefore, men had to bring their own guns, and had to scavenge through battlefields to use left ammunition and weapons (“American Civil War History” 1). Additionally, railroads was vital in the movement of troops and material. As the Union had 71% of the available railroads in the US, where the South, only 29%, since the Confederacy's railroads suffered tremendous damage with the Union army regularly vandalizing railroad tracks (Railroads of the Confederacy” 1). Where railroads were vital for the Union, since the majority of the battles fought was in the South. Lastly, total population was the most important resource for the Union to win the War, having 71% of the population in the United States, compared to the Confederates, 29% (Facts of the Civil War” 1). Secondly, the amount and the surplus of resources the North had over the South gave them an advantage during the war, due to their modes of transportation, the production of factories, and their total population. Finally, leaders played an extensive role in the victory of the Union, making important decisions that could've changed the outcome of the American Civil War. In the end, the South lost the war primarily because of the losses of major battles, ran out of men and supplies, and did not have as of a strong leader(s) that the Union was lead and guided with.
