Becoming a certified boat coxswain is the goal and responsibility of all third class boatswains’ mates. I would like the Coast Guard to establish a cohesive plan to train, and fund education to generate qualified BM3 coxswains in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Once they graduate A-school there is no solid plan or funding to ensure the reserve member’s training stays on schedule and completes their training within the required time frame. The process for a Reserve BM3 to become a coxswain is a long and difficult journey.…

For the third boat project, all of the STEM subjects tied in for many reasons. Science ties in with being able to know how buoyancy works and be able to modify the boat to be able to perform much better in water. Using science to find mass, density, and volume is very important with this as well, making it easy to make calculations in the math area. Technology/Engineering helps with us building prototypes and using the scientific/engineering processes.…

Summer is the perfect time for a trip to the beach, and for nature lovers, there’s no better beach than Crab Cove. Located at the north end of Crown Memorial State Beach in Alameda, the Crab Cove Marine Protected Area, is California’s first marine reserve on an estuary. Estuaries are defined as bodies of water usually found where rivers meet the sea. At Crab Cove, this provides a unique opportunity to view a wide variety of creatures and habitats. The best time to view this intertidal life is when the tide is two feet or lower.…
The Gulf of Tonkin attack has stirred controversies that have persisted for decades. Classified documents and tapes, that were once classified, have been released recently. These materials have paved the way to the possibility that distorted facts led to the United States engagement in the Vietnam War. There is no arguing the fact that a North Vietnamese patrol boat attacked the USS Maddox while the ship was patrolling in the Gulf on August 2nd, 1964.…
Jersey Shore was a popular TV show on MTV between 2009 and 2012 about “Guidos”, or Americans of Italian descent in their twenties who rented a house together on the Jersey Shore, which was aimed at teenagers and people under thirty. Jersey Shore is affecting our culture in a negative way because the majority of people that watched it might have thought differently about Italians and think that’s all that they do. At one point, Jersey Shore became one of the most watched TV shows and I think it influenced some slang we use today. MTV is famous for making popular TV shows and sucking people in to watching them. They are really good at making reality shows.…
Imagine you just get home and there’s a letter in your mail from the government, the letter was asking for all your information because they wanted to draft you for the war. Most people wouldn’t be happy with getting a letter from the government saying that they had to go off and fight in the war and not having a decision. The draft is mainly held so they can have help in the war and so they can have a better chance of winning the war.…
Reinstating the Draft During the Vietnam War the public was upset with the military draft policies, even during previous wars there was some debate about the rules. The WWII draft had caused nearly the majority of men that were of age to be sent overseas. Women had to be sent to work leaving families at home and taking over the role of the men. Women were practicing hard labor, putting together planes, weapons, and ammunition; children were even helping. The draft has positive and negative sides, which are constantly being debated by men and women alike.…

Are the American people willing to be once again forced into the military if the draft was reinstated? The Military draft also known as conscription,it involves the compulsory enlistment in an armed force;the draft dates as far back as twenty-seventh century b.c.e. The american draft began during the American Civil War, but mainly served as a way to induce volunteering. However, by the Vietnam War the draft system failed due to itś unpopularity as what was considered an unfair system and because of itś inability to produce a force suited to warfare on the harsh battlefield of Indochina(Salem Press Encyclopedia).…
Aquatic Defense The United States has a few branches of the military. They all have important jobs that make them unique, but they also all have similarities. Two branches that are often debated are the Navy and the Coast Guard. The United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard have been said to be the same branches by some, and completely different by others.…
It came as a shock to me, new coaches and many new girls on the team and they chose me to be the captain. This past school year I was given the honor of being the JV Tennis captain, it came as a huge surprise to me, seeing as it was new coaches who had only met me a month before naming me, captain. This was my second year of being on the team and I was one of three seniors on JV, many of the other girls were freshmen and sophomores. My coaches presented me with the idea of being captain by giving me the following three reasons: I always give 120% at practice, I am always the first one to volunteer when they are looking for someone to help one of the new girls and, they saw potential in me and saw that I always had a positive attitude.…

If I got a ticket in my hand. It would be for a Royal Caribbean Liberty of The Seas Cruise. Given this ticket in my hand I would use it for these purposes. It would be a new experience since I've never been on a cruise or traveled a lot in my life.…
