People visiting the beach keep on littering the beach which leads to compilation of wastes in the beach. Furthermore, major constructions and other human activities have been taking place around Coco beach subjecting the beach into pollution and the destruction of its natural beauty. It is then important to ascertain value in order to maintain the environmental quality and avoid the irreversible damage. This will also help authorities to know the exact amount of revenue that can be generated from the visitors to improve the environmental quality of the beach; hence the study aims at determining the value of recreational sites in Tanzania taking the case study of Coco beach in the Dar-es-salaam city.
As a tourism region, Tanzania is rather poorly developed and the economic impact of tourism is still relatively small (Sindiga, 1999, p. 6). proposed approach or method

There arises a need to have some ways to put an economic estimate to recreation sites. Travel cost and contingent valuation methods are amongst the most widely used environmental techniques for valuing recreational sites in the world. Travel cost method is used to estimate economic use values associated with ecosystems or sites that are used for recreation. The method can be used to estimate the economic benefits or costs resulting from changes in access costs for a recreational site, elimination of an existing recreational site, addition of a new recreational site and changes in environmental quality at a site. On the other hand, contingent valuation method is used to estimate economic values for all kinds of ecosystem and environmental services. It can be used to estimate both use and non-use values of the recreation site. In this method, people are directly asked on how much they would be willing to contribute financially to the improvement of the
