In the case of colon cancer, a polyp begins in the inside of the colon lining, in which, the growth may become cancerous. Polyps are normally in the inner wall of the colon. An individual with cancer 's- survival odds, are dependent on the stage of cancer they are diagnosed with. For colon cancer patients, Stage 0 is found in the inner lining of the colon. Stage 1 reaches past the inner lining of the colon, to the outer layers. Stage 2 has a larger tumor, and goes through the muscular wall of the colon. Stage 3 surpasses the colon and spreads to the lymph nodes. Stage 3 is divided into 3 types: A,B or C. Stage 3A tumors involve the colon wall and the lymph nodes. Stage 3B has surpassed the colon wall and has infected one to four lymph nodes. Stage 3C has spread to more than four lymph nodes. Stage IV is the most severe, and involves the cancer spreading well passed the colon to other organs in the body, ex.lungs. The affected individuals will almost indefinitely have symptoms in the later stages of colon cancer.
Normally, cells are designed to divide in an orderly manner, and die when they are weak or damaged, to make room for new cells. In all cancerous diseases there is an abnormal growth and division of cells. When a cell divides into an abundant amount, the mutation- prevents normal cells from functioning properly and this affects the part of the body these particular tumors/cancerous diseases have grown in. However, …show more content…
If one or more of those processes are disrupted, it affects homeostatic stability of the patient. The authors stated, " Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer and the second cause of cancer-related deaths in the Western World". (Vitiani, Fabrizi, Palio, Maria, 2009). The review validates and is consistent with the statements made by John L. Zeller, MD, PhD; Cassio Lynm, MA and Richard M. Glass, MD. In order to maintain a normal level of homeostasis, normal cells must divide to replace the older versions of cells. Cancer has a dire affect on homeostasis, because it affects the cell division in a patient 's body. Cancer makes non-cancerous cells malignant by interrupting the internal cellular control mechanisms: this disorder, does not allow DNA to repair, and interferes with programmed cell death, eventually leading to metastasis in the later
