People who suffer from chronic pain commonly complain of sleep disturbance. For example, 50% to 70% patients who suffer from chronic pain because of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) reports disruptive sleep pattern (Nicassio et al., 2012). Nicassio et al. (2012) confirmed in their study that people with RA and with other pain related disorders have more chances of disturbed sleep than patients with other physiological disease conditions. Smith, Nasir, Campbell, and Okonkwo (2012) suggested in their study that there is a complex relationship between sleep disturbance and pain. Sleep disturbance is a common symptom of chronic pain or it could develop chronic pain. Some studies claim that poor sleep increases inflammation and inflammation alters pain. On the other hand, other studies indicate that chronic pain provokes sleep problems and it causes psychological distress as a consequence of altering sleep pattern (Smith et al., 2012). Persistent pain can produce mood disturbance, inactivity, cognitive impairment and it contributes to depression (Atkinson et al., 1988; Haythornthwaite, Hegel, & Kerns, 1991; Morin, Kowatch, & Wade, 1989; Pilowsky et al., 1985; Smith et al., 2000; Smith et al., 2001 as cited in Smith et al., 2012). People with chronic pain loss of hope of getting relief of pain and starts feeling their lives are meaningless and develops depression. To give an example, how sleep disturbance relates to depression, Nicassio et al.
