This article touches on the downside of community colleges. Community college director, Thomas Bailey makes an argument that “Community colleges have the students with the greatest problems-yet they get the least resources.” The article also pulls in a few statistics on graduation rates between community colleges and 4 year universities. Only 22 percent of these students graduated from a two year program within three years at community college, whereas 57 percent of the students graduated within six years at a four year university.

Although racism is almost everywhere we go, situations like Mizzou cause me personally to question whether or not I want to surround myself with all that negativity. One quote stuck out to me in particular, ““I have been called the n-word too many times to count.” She recalled jogging along a road in May when a white man in a truck flying a Confederate flag stopped, spat at her, called out a racist slur and sped off.”(Wolfe, A history of Racism) This quote could be used to show how bad the racism at certain schools really can be. This article discusses the financial side of college. Public four-year colleges for out of state students estimates to around 23,000 dollars. Community colleges tend to be around 3,500. These are just tuition expenses. Other than tuition, the article touches on the other aspects of college debt. In her video, Myra Smith also states, “Besides tuition and fees, students have to pay for housing, food, books and supplies. They also have to cover any additional college fees and other living expenses, such as transportation costs.” This can factor into whether a student chooses a University, or a community college.
I can easily use this for my essay to explain why community college is a good first step after high school. In my first article they explain how most students who go to community college struggled financially long before then. I could tie those two articles together to make a solid argument on why this would be a smarter option to save money.
