The “Holy Trinity”, “Birth of Venus”, and “Mona Lisa” all exemplifies the Renaissance period and each have a distinguished style and look in the work. They all have some similarities and differences in their style and each fits in a category that has been already examined. They also seem to have an implied message in the works; religious, mythological, and reflectiveness of beauty. Masaccio was one of the pioneers in the creation of Renaissance art and has greatly influenced the art of painting in this era. One of his famous art works, the “Holy Trinity with the Virgin, St John and donors” has been said that it was the very first example of the use of the perspective in the whole history of Western art (In Italy, 2016). The “Holy Trinity” is a religious fresco painting with image of Jesus Christ being crucified. There are in total six figures in the painting and a skeleton. Each figures are outlined and are on a different level. They are all facing towards the crucified Christ and seems to be mourning. His famous portrait work, “Mona Lisa” exemplifies the use of sfumato. Mona Lisa is an oil painting on a wooden panel. Like what most portrait paintings looks, there is only one figure in the picture. Unlike past art works, this painting does not have a outline to the figure. Leonardo da Vinci uses a technic called sfumato and instead of outlining, he used the contrast of light and shadow. This makes the painting seem more life like and realistic.
