Classical conditioning theory is learning by association. Here a neutral stimuli (Condition Stimuli) which on its own would not produce a response (unconditioned response/natural response), can produce a response (UR) after being associated with natural triggers (unconditioned stimuli/US) of the unconditioned response. This news response is now called the condition response (CR). Here the natural, innate/biological responses are the same however, that they are now being trigger by a new or learned signal.

Now I cannot get her to read a book without her asking me “what am I going to get”? I never link the rewards to her behavior of wanting something in return for everything she is ask to do. Now that I know the downside of operant conditioning, no more rewards.
The learning theory best suited to Nursing is the operant conditioning theory. This theory is best suited to the nursing field because here new behavior/actions are learned base on the consequences of the reinforcers or punishers negative or positive. And sometimes change in lifestyle is the cure for some ailment or diseases.
Question for discussion board: we know that if the CS is continually presented without the US extinction will occur. So why is extinction so slow in the case of PTSD? Does the rate of extinction depends on the strength of association with the CS? And how would you measure strength of association? And if it can be measure can it be apply in educational setting, where we develop very strong association with a CS and school materials.
