The two religions I chose to compare are Judaism and Hinduism. Judaism is a Middle Eastern religion that originated in Israel. Hinduism is a religion that originated in India. Both of these religions have no one founder. Judaism and Hinduism both believe in reincarnation, but believe in different types. [2]The following are some Jewish rituals: Baby naming or Simchat Bat takes place in the synagogue on the babies first Shabbat. Bar/Bat Mitzvah is the ritual for when a child becomes an adult. Eight days after birth a Jewish baby boy undergoes a Brit Milah or circumcision if healthy. Marriage or Simcha is a ceremony between two Jewish individuals performed under a chuppah or canopy. Mikvoat or a ritual cleansing bath that is done for marriage that a woman is to do after menstruation in order for the couple to consummate their marriage. [5] Some Hindu rituals are: Puja or prayer is done to pay homage to a god or guest or to celebrate something. Hindus recite the Rig Veda at dusk and dawn. After taking a bath, they engage in personal worship at a family shrine. In the afternoon, females sing hymns to praise the gods. There is also a birth, infancy or upanayana ritual. The Upanayana is an important event in the upper caste for male’s six to twelve. This ritual seems a lot like a Baptism, but with a string that the boy will wear on him always across his shoulder to symbolize being reborn.
