He told the pilgrims that whoever told the best story would win. The pilgrims agreed and one by one they started to tell stories. The story in my point of views that relate to The Tragedy of Macbeth is The Pardoner’s Tale. Where the Pardoner starts of with three drunken young boys who live the life in sins and wanted to look for and kill Death. While on their journey to find Death, they come upon an old man who proclaims he knows where death is. Instead of the old man leading the boys to Death he leads them to 8 bushels of gold. Where at the end they kill one another fro all the money. Now, that is a short summary of both The Canterbury Tales and The Pardoner’s Tale. Moving forward to The Tragedy of Macbeth. The main character Macbeth and his friend Banquo run into three witches who can tell the future. The three witches tell Macbeth he will be king if King Duncan dies. Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth being so eager to become king and queen devise a plan to kill King Duncan. Which eventually happens. Then Banquo having the opportunity to take the throne is terminated when Macbeth finds out and kills him to. But the killing doesn’t stop there. In The Canterbury Tales, the theme shown most is the social class or estates. During the Renaissance period, the social class was called estates and would be arranged from first, second, and third estates. So, the first estate for example would hold the knight, yeoman, reeve, and doctor. The second class would hold the merchant, clerk, cook, wife of bath, and miller. And the third estate would include the pardoner, monk, friar, and prioress. This was the main theme in The Canterbury Tales. The theme in The Tragedy of Macbeth is similar in ways but still different. The theme is gender or gender equality. During the Renaissance period, women were not viewed equally to men. They were only seen as mothers and stay at home mom. But in the play The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth was portrayed stronger than Macbeth. Usually the woman listens to the man or man of the house. But Lady Macbeth was the total opposite. Lady Macbeth took over the plot to kill King Duncan and bossed Macbeth around.
