First, there are many similarities between the stanzas of these two poems. Firstly, both poems are written with stanzas that are composed of four lines. Although, the poem “I felt a Funeral, in my Brian” is made of five stanzas, the poem “My Papa’s Waltz” is only composed of four stanzas. Also, the lines in the poem “My Papa’s Waltz” end with commas, comma splices, periods and some lines end with nothing. On the other hand, the lines of the poem “I felt a Funeral, in my Brian” ends with commas, lowliness, and some lines also end with nothing. The poem “My Papa’s Waltz,” talks about the great time a boy share with his family; also, while playing around with his dad in the kitchen, the mom is there looking. Although, the dad in this poem seems to express a lot of authority in his family, he still have a good connection with his son and that is a great thing. The author describes this family so well that anybody who has a family or wish to have a family in the future will dream to have one like this. On the contrary, “I felt a Funeral, in my Brian” talks about a person who is imaging a funeral in his head. The character also talks about what happens after death. “As all the Heavens were a bell,” (line.13). This passage from the poem describes to us how the character perceives Heavens in his brain. So, she is talking about how the funeral of her brain should take place. I love reading both poems and I like equally the messages behind each story because I come from a happy family and I also feel my brain is exhausted from time to time. Moreover, reading “I felt a Funeral, in my Brian,” made me question the author’s sanity because it kind of weird that a person is imaging funeral in his head. Since, she is talking about the death of her own brain, I questioned whether she wanted to die or is it just a writer’s technique
