16 October 2015 “New Freedom” versus “New Nationalism” By the early twentieth century, American ideals in the Progressive movement began to reflect onto the political scene. The Progressive moment approached both social and economic reforms while maintaining popularity under presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Wilson and Roosevelt were eager to bring progressive change through government, the economy, and society through their campaigns- New Freedom and New Nationalism. Woodrow Wilson’s New Freedom and Roosevelt’s New Nationalism were considered different approaches to achieving the same goal.
