At Fort Necessity Washington’s forces were attacked by the French. The French had the upper hand, using the hills and trees over-looking the fort, and the English were unable to make a defense, so Washington accepted the surrender terms. Defeated, they retreated to Virginia, leaving the French in control of the land. Fort Necessity served as the battlefield for a fight still remembered today, that helped spark the french and Indian War.
