Let 's start out with the south, or Jamestown. Middle colonies were much more south, making it so they had longer days, as well as higher temperatures. The land was flattened from flooding, but had a nice river transport system. The land was good for growing large quantities of crops such as tobacco or cotton. The east coast was cooler, and was mostly used for transport, and was used in earlier settlements like Jamestown. More inland places like South Carolina, were swamp like lands, or wetlands, which made it a perfect area for cultivating rice, or indigo. Now moving on to northern colonies; New England area. The climate and region were more north, creating longer winters, and the coldest weather. The summers being mild and shorter than the southern or middle colonies. The land was not good for planting crops, so they imported crops instead, and trade items included; fish, whale items, fur, timber, ships, and livestock. The land was more mountain, and rocky, built with thick forests, and little flat lands. The geographical differences were the trade items, land build, temperature, winter and summers, and crop
