The main factor differentiating the Middle Ages from the Renaissance was a shift in the human awareness, be it about themselves, the world around them, or about religion. Jacob Burckhardt states that “In the Middle Ages both sides of human consciousness lay dreaming… beneath a common veil. In Italy... man became a spiritual individual, and recognized himself as such.”…
In the end of the 14th century, many Italian thinkers realized that they were living in a new age. The Middle Ages were over and there was a “rebirth”. In 15th century, the Renaissance began in Florence, Italy. Renaissance philosophers had a great appreciation for mankind and physical beauty, known as humanism. Humanism encouraged many to experiment and learn more about the world.…
At any point in history, it is possible to examine a work of science or art and determine the sentiments and concepts of that period. The period of history known as the Renaissance proves this to be true with countless works of art reflecting the thoughts and ideas of Europe from about 1350-1700. A total “rebirthing” of Europe, the Renaissance transformed nearly every aspect of Europe including Politics, Economy, Science, and Art. The Predecessor of the Renaissance known as the Middle Ages spanning from about 500-1350 were defined by a lack of Politics,Economy,Science, and Art and a dominant Catholic church wielding power and influence over the European populace. Perhaps the biggest juxtaposition between the two periods is faith in humanity rather than religion, for Economy, Politics, Science, and especially Art are of human nature not religious.…
During the Renaissance period of the 14th to 17th century, art and architecture between Northern Europe and Italy were both similar and different in many ways. From the detailed work of everyday life of the North to the Neoplatonic allegories of Italian work, the Renaissance was a time of transition and strength. The most dominant similarity between Northern European and Italian Renaissance artwork lies behind the meaning of humanism. During the Renaissance, there was “rebirth of culture”; a shift towards people acknowledging human achievement. In religious pieces of art, Jesus was seen as less Godly and more human-like with emotion.…
The Renaissance is among the most prominent and influential historical time periods in all of art history. Derived the from the French term for “rebirth,” the Renaissance was a renewed interest in the ideas, culture, forms and perspectives of the ancient civilizations of Greek and Rome. The Renaissance was the start of the new developments and the branching away from religious paintings. "Rebirth" was the nickname and the French translational for Renaissance. The Renaissance was mainly about literature and learning as said in this quote: “By the term Renaissance (" New Birth"), used in its narrower sense, is meant that new enthusiasm for classical literature, learning, and art which sprang up in Italy towards the close of the Middle Ages…” (“The Renaissance”). This time period was all about upgrading their doings or restructuring the way things were done.…

The middle ages were a period with little to no educational advances or new inventions. The people relied on the church for guidance and adhered blindly to the religions in which they were born. Myths were believed over scientifically proven theories because the people weren’t very educated which in turned made them rarely questioned the validity of what they learned. The Renaissance was effective in changing the way that people thought. Man’s view or the world was changed through art because instead of focusing solely on religious figures the people started to embrace the uniqueness of the individual; in literature for instead of fearing eternal damnation people started to see how awe inspiring and magnificent human were as a species; finally man’s view of the world was changed through science for, unlike during the Middle Ages were scientific theories were backed by little to no evidence, the Renaissance ideas were, for the knowledge that spread was mostly accurate because the sciences were done with math, observation, and experiments.…
During the Renaissance, there was a rebirth in human dignity. Pico Della Mirandola (1463-1494) wrote the “Oration on the Dignity of Man”. Pico explained that humans are a miracle. Similarities The Renaissance and Middle Ages was two completely different time periods, but they also had some things in common with the way they used music. For example, both time periods used music in church and sacred gatherings. The Middle Ages built spaces to be used just for musical performances (Middle). The rooms were large with acoustic qualities and were surrounded by stained glass windows depicting Biblical scenes.…
With the birth of the Renaissance in Italy during the 14th century, emerged new and radical ideas which contradicted the orthodox teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Renaissance writers and artists, such as Machiavelli, da Vinci, and Raphael, blatantly challenged these teachings and values through the use of increasingly influential philosophies such as secularism, individualism, and humanism in their work. Secularism, the idea that religion should not be integrated with matters of the state, is emphasized by writers such as Niccolo Machiavelli and the painter Botticelli. Perhaps the most prominent demonstration of secularism can be attributed to Machiavelli’s The Prince. In his work, Machiavelli denounces the traditional church outlook…
