became very famous through their short fiction horror writing. Some of these writers were
considered Gothic writers because of how their romantic short stories will often end in tragedy.
These early American fiction writers were Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar
Allan Poe. I will be clarifying how Washington, Nathaniel, and Edgar use different writing
unique styles, various literary themes, and forms in each of their short stories.

Poe was best known for his poetry short stories which were mainly tales of mystery. According
to (Lynn M) Edgar Allan Poe is best known for his novel “The Raven.” The Raven was a success
it was published in America and Europe. Edgar Allan Poe used a different type of styles, themes,
and forms for his short fiction poetry stories. Edgar Allan Poe uses rhyme, alliteration, and
symbol. The style of this story The Raven is eighteen stanzas of five lines each. According to
(Lynn M) “The most prominent features of Poe's poetry are a pervasive tone of melancholy, a
longing for lost love and beauty, and a preoccupation with death, particularly the deaths of
beautiful women.” The themes of this story are anguish, negativity, and sadness. In this poem,
The Raven Edgar Allan Poe wants the audience to understand what’s happening in this setting.
