Becoming aware of the seven competencies within the tutorial task, I was able to consolidate my knowledge which made me reflect on my experiences in the past with previous managers. Further, as a manager myself now, I was able to consider how I could improve my performance within my workplace and better lead my team. During the tutorial task, I could especially relate to the competency of job-relevant knowledge. Throughout my current employment, prior to taking on a management position myself, I was a senior staff member for a significant duration. During this extended period, I experienced first-hand managers that had little job-revelant knowledge, which extended from their own managerial qualities, job competency and knowledge of the store’s operations. At times, I found myself also disappointed with previous managers lacking the quality of integrity, whether this be sacrificing operations for their own benefit, lying, or even treating staff members unfavourably for their own personal advantage. As a staff member, I developed my own idea of norms that I used to commence my performance as I took on a managerial role. I found that this experience motivated me to be a better leader and to show strong qualities of integrity within my leadership, and to also capitalise on my experience as a well-established senior staff
