Creating these friendships can give students social skills that will help them later on in life (Perles, 2012). Students with disabilities who are placed in a regular education class tend to revere the students without disabilities because of certain qualities they portray; social skills in particular. When those special needs students look up to the regular education students it gives the mainstreamed students the feeling of being needed. This is an important aspect to an inclusion classroom because it benefits the regular education students by giving them a sense of feeling important. It also is important for the special education students because they are exposed to non- disabled students and learn how to act in a normal social manner (Perles, 2012). Lastly, it benefits the special needs students because it gives them a sense of belonging which is important because that will influence how confortable they feel in a social settings. This is an important factor because if the special needs students don’t feel accepted in the real world they may never exercise the social skills they have learned. In an inclusion class the students are often held to a higher standard since the teacher uses inclusive methods to help them achieve higher academically. Students in an inclusion class that are disabled also receive academic role models from their peers. (Perles, 2012). In this classroom one could come across many difficulties, but more often than not one will come away with many practical benefits. One of the main academic benefits being that when bringing special needs students into a mainstream class everyone in that classrooms abilities and disabilities will exchange creating a learning atmosphere where everyone brings something to the table (Romo, 2013). In addition, students that are not classified as having a disability make big gains academically due to the extra support that is offered in class.
