DOJ law enforcement entities assisting in border control and enforcement include the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is DHS’s primary law enforcement agency, made up of the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), Office of Field Operations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Air and Marine Operations, which are responsible for securing America’s borders (DHS Budget, 2016). The proposal strengthens the infrastructure at ports of entry, facilitates public-private partnerships that invest in foreign visiting and the use of sophisticated equipment to secure land and maritime borders (Immigration, n.d.). The President’s proposals expand our abilities to improve partnerships with cross-border law enforcement through the Department of Homeland Security by establishing liaisons along our southern and northern borders (Immigration, n.d.). The cross-border effort establishes effective communication with communities and provides funding for tribal partners to reduce illicit trade and activity on tribal lands, thus strengthening civil rights and liberties for DHS immigration officers (Immigration, n.d.).
