Life in Afghanistan was a difficult. Afghanistan was a war zone at the time of Sohrab’s childhood. Soldiers and terrors is what he was met with daily. Just wanting to walk out of the house with his Grandmother must have taken some courage. When his parents were murdered, it must have taken courage for Sohrab to want to keep living in that type of world. In that, type of horrible place. Then being sent to an orphanage all alone in wartime must have been terrifying. However, Sohrab persevered became brave and survived. The bravery from warfare probably is what helped Sohrab be brave when Assef came. Just as Assef did to Hassan, he abused Sohrab in the same. Sohrab every single day of his life probably went through some form of abuse. Unknowing if it would ever end, unknowing if there was help coming. He lived on courage. He kept himself alive and was brave. He kept on being brave until Amir finally came to save. Then even after that, Sohrab showed his bravery in deciding to trust someone for the first time in months that actually cared for him. All these events took courage from deep inside him. Sohrab was more courageous than his father was and he was definitely more courageous than Amir was at that point in his life. Hassan, Amir, and Sohrab, all endured their own challenges but the y put their best feet forward and were brave until the very end. What constituted their bravery was the will do what was right and the will to survive. All of these people showed more bravery than the average person would and would most likely be brave in the same ways again. All of them would be brave for each other again even if they held no knowledge of it. “For you a thousand times over!” (67) they would say without
