Critical thinking is the process of objectively evaluating evidence or facts. For me, this means gathering information and assessing what is relevant to the problem that needs to be solved, the decision that needs to be made, or the information that needs to be evaluated.
One form of critical thinking uses a series of steps to evaluate information when solving a problem and when making decisions. Another form of critical thinking uses a series of questions to evaluate information to determine if there is enough evidence to support it being fact or determine it is just the authors opinion. When I have a problem to solve or a decision to make, I find it helpful to use a specific set of steps or list of questions to ask myself,
