An activity that helped me address my assumptions was an in-class discussion on how we react unconsciously to certain events (Adams, 2017). Throughout the discussion, I reflected on past events and how I could have unconsciously assumed a person based on their appearance and behavior. The article that helped me explore my biases was Moule’s Understanding Unconscious Bias and Unintentional Racism. Moule stated how all humans have biases that can go undetected within the person but is easily seen by their peers (Moule, 2009). After reading the article, I spent a few moments addressing my unconscious biases because I believe in respect and equality.
