According to the CDC, suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it. Most of the time, victims that actually killed themselves, did so because their bullies Suggested that he/she, “should kill” him or herself because nobody would miss them, further suggesting that the world would be better without them. Some bystanders may be afraid to speak up for fear of becoming victims themselves, while others identify with the bully and enjoy watching someone else suffer. Nevertheless, both types of bystanders contribute to an atmosphere that condones bullying. Therefore, legislation should both hold accountable and protect bystanders.
