Abstract
Health is a well being of physical health, mental health, emotional health, and mental health. Despite the technological advances, there are still challenges in improving the health of the patients. It is important for people to be knowledgeable about the concept of health and instilling positive behaviors and in their life to maintain their well-being. They need to address risky behaviors in order to improve outcomes. It is important to strengthen both individual and community skills to tackle factors that affect health. We use home remedies first to treat minor health problems or we just ignore and don’t talk much about them with each other. We do not quickly depend on medicines. My family mostly relies on natural remedies since they have minimal risks and only a few adverse effects if any. We believe that treatment is done through changing diet and lifestyles. Recently when my brother was sick, my mom made him milk and added turmeric, salt, and ginger. My dad made us hot chicken soup and varied green veggies. We combine Ayurvedic, medical, and shamanic. I never had any serious health conditions. I did have a toothache or minor sickness, such as stomach ache, which would last only a few days. My family never took me to a dentist and I can understand as we did have some financial difficulties. So let alone going to hospitals for checkups, my parents didn't even go to a hospital to deliver my brother because of money. Back then believing in dhami/ jhankri was not a surprise as my parents are illiterate. Even though we do not believe in dhami/jhankri anymore, I, myself, have witnessed that somehow they are successful in treating people to some extent. The day my mom took me to dhami when I was sick and the dhami did mantras (chanting,) the very next day, I was fine. It would have been a better and reliable idea if we could have just gone to visit a doctor. But it might have been due to the lack of access to health facilities or financial problems. However, it is remarkable how my family now accepts the scientific intervention and corporates it with some complementary traditional medicines.
