Success Success. What is success? Is it financial stability? Or is it achieving one’s personal goals? According to Merriam Webster dictionary success is “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame”,“ the correct or desired result of an attempt”, or “someone or something that is successful a person or thing that succeeds”. The word success comes from the Latin term succedere: “an advance, a coming up; a good result, happy outcome. Success to me is being content with your life and current situation. I would like to start by breaking down the word “success” and going into a deeper discussion of its origins. The word success was first used in 1537, with the idea that that result was positive, in other words, successful. The way we use it now, that things turned out well, came around the late 1540s, but initially success could be a positive or negative thing. Unqualified success began appearing in the 1580s and is today's most prominent form, appearing by itself and as "success rate". An example would be the Asian community. In more traditional Asian households they practice old customs. Long-held Asian beliefs and customs are at the foundation in many parts of Asia. The mentality of success here, also usually shared by the older Asian generation, and has a pattern of being rooted in Asian traditions. Success for many Asians in Asia usually means finishing college with a high degree and getting a high paying job. Getting married at a certain age, with someone of the same race and sometimes completing a recreational achievement award such as a Grade 8 musical certificate.
