The ACL is a common repair and occurs in sports. There are two types …show more content…
This will help to develop a plan of care that can be used as a suggested protocol in the Physical Therapy profession for ACL reconstructions. A protocol is the guide for how an injury should be rehabilitated without causing harm or reversing the surgery, IT is most times created with the input of an orthopedic surgeon as well as a PT. Through this study, better outcomes and testing improvements when used together than when used independently after an ACL reconstructive …show more content…
Therefore, no information will be collected on adolescent’s response to the differing rehabilitation styles.
Variables
The independent variable will be the type of exercise used; closed kinetic chain (CKC), open kinetic chain (OKC), or the combination technique. The dependent variable will be the change in the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), manual muscle testing (Appendix 5), and range of motion (ROM) degrees. The LEFS can be seen in Appendix 4.
Definitions
Open Kinetic Chain (OKC) exercises: when one muscle group and or joint is isolated in an exercises. Examples of OKC exercises are short arc quads and leg extensions.
Closed Kinetic Chain (CKC) exercises: using a combination of muscle groups and/or joints to complete a task. Examples of CKC exercises are squats and lunges.
Range of Motion (ROM): the measurement of the amount of movement that the joint can move in different directions. For the study it will be measured in degrees using a goniometer.
Manual Muscle Testing (MMT): a numerical scale that include pluses and minus to show the amount of function and strength that a muscle has. Grading scale can be found in Appendix
