I like to call the dental assistant job, a job you can still have a life with. Being a dental assistant is the best job for me because, education is short, pay and jobs are greatly increasing, and the work schedule is very flexible. This is a great field of work to get into for those, like myself, who want to help others without so many years of schooling. Recently I had the opportunity to job shadow at my orthodontist office. It was a great chance to learn more about the field and see for myself if its something I actually want to pursue. I learned a lot about the dental assistant field that day with the professionals. I learned dental assistants have tasks such as, making sure patients are comfortable in the chair. They prepare the patient and work space for the dentist to do the treatments and procedures. Dental assistants also help by handing the dentist the instruments he needs, and also by keeping the patients mouth dry by using suction hoses. I learned there are different options open for reaching the dental assistant certification, license, or registration. Some states require you to graduate from an accredited school program and pass the exam. Whereas other states have no formal requirements for entry level dental assistants. Some people choose to avoid the schooling and choose to gain their knowledge through on the job training(Dental Assistant). I have learned that if you choose to do on the job training, in order to take the test to obtain your certification the only requirement is 2 years of job experience. I personally and going to an accredited school near me that like most accredited programs, contain class and laboratory work.
