Descriptive data
The following is a discussion of the descriptive data for the variables systolic blood pressure , diastiloc blood pressure, gender and nationtonal insitute of health hypertension category used to decribe the sample. Within this sample of 50 particpants, the average systolic blood pressure obtained was 135.88. This average takes into consideration all scores obtained within this sample population (Loiselle et al., 2011). If the scores were rearrange from the lowest score obtained which was a minimum of 90 to the maximum score obtained which was 220, the midpoint in the distribution of systolic blood pressure that divides the scores in half was 134 (Loiselle et al., 2011). The scale of systolic blood pressure …show more content…
For the variable systolic blood pressure, future research should consider how measuresments for this variable were obatined. For example, was the arm of the participant supported at heart level? (Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, 2005). According to Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (2005) the arm of the participant when obtaining the blood pressure should be support at heart level. This is one criteria the nurse should consider in practice to ensure that the results obtain are accurate (Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, 2005). The criterion for obtaining results of blood pressure as discussed by Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (2005) also applies to the variable diastolic blood pressure and should be considered in future research and nursing practice. The variable gender has an implication to future research for the study on hypertension. Future research should include health history of both male and female participants and the impact this could have on hypertension. In nursing practice, nurses should collect as much data related to each participant about health history in order to have a better understanding of the participants health as a whole (Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, 2005). The categories of hypertension from the variable National Institute of Health hypertension is important for future research because with the results obtained from this sample population, future research studies can focus on why one category has more participants than another. Thus in nursing practice, with the knowledge obtained from the study results, nurses can gather information and look at trends that lead participants into certain categories (Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario,
