The most well know mountain is the Carpathian, which spans across the majority of the northern area of the country. Within the Carpathian’s the highest summit lies within High Tatras, at eight thousand seven hundred and eleven feet. Slovakia happens to be home to nine National Parks. Slovakia is home to over six thousand caves and they happen to form within the mountains. Unfortunately, out of the six thousand caves found throughout the country, only fifteen happen to be open to the public. Many of the caves have unique features called stalagmites and stalactites. Stalagmites are rocks, which rise from the ground while stalactites, much like Stalagmites, differ in that they are rocks, which hang from the ceiling. These rocks most closely resemble something us Minnesotans are all too familiar with, known as icicles.
