Nettie Stauts January 26, 2018 CDT-2413 Module 1 Lab Parents Perspective: The parents were apprehensive, but eager, entering their son Luke in a child care program. They were getting early intervention home-centered services in which Luke had progressed with assistance from his therapist and babysitter. He lacked social developmental skills and they heard about inclusion although unfamiliar with the concept. They were adapted interacting with Luke through gestures and augmentative communication devices yet anxious about his communication in the classroom.…
The purpose of assessments The National Early Childhood Assessment Resource Group summarized the purposes for appropriate uses of assessment in the early childhood years as follows: Purpose 1: Assessing to promote children’s learning and development; Purpose 2: Identifying children for health and social services; Purpose 3: Monitoring trends and evaluating programs and services Purpose 4: Assessing academic achievement to hold individual students, teachers, and schools accountable” Source: (Shepard, Kagan, Lynn, & Wurtz, 1998). The DEC and NAEYC codes of ethics exposed some important reminders of why I truly want to be part of a profession that place important values when considering all children, all families investing in the early childhood (EC) field and individuals willing working within this field to increase the quality care that govern our profession. I have worked within this field in various capacities that made me question the individuals I worked for and how I viewed and valued the (EC) profession. The DEC codes in particular discuss the enhancement of children’s and families quality of life when investing in child care development. Under this code #2 we should be able to identify professionals that recognize the responsibility to improve the developmental…

Roofs are being blown off the buildings and ceilings caving in! Rags placed in the hole in the walls and floors to keep out the cold and rain! Sewage coming up from the floors as children track it into the carpeted classroom rooms from the hallway! Everyone is running around asking for help, blaming each other and nothing still get done about the problem! Sounds like a bad sci-fi movie…
The reason why it’s important to discuss developmental milestones with families regularly from the beginning is because we need to help the child achieve the milestones. When the caregivers aren’t present, it’s important for the family members to try and help the child at home with achieving the milestone. From the beginning to the present, many things could change in the child’s developmental milestones. Like to see if the child has made any progress since the beginning and if they did then head towards the new milestone and if not think of ways to help achieve the milestone. I thought that Ms. Carolyn communicated nicely with David’s mom.…
Diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder before two-years old, E. received all the services Early Intervention provides. By age three his parents felt there was an expressive, creative “boy inside” that was not being reached, and discovered dance/movement therapy. Longitudinal videotapes, live performance, group dancing and discussion with the dance/movement therapist, E., and his mother chronicle E.’s journey. Using a transdisciplinary approach including the creative arts and DIR®/Floortime, E.’s gifted musicality, inquisitive creative mind, sensitive capacity for symbolic expression, and passion for all the fine arts enable E., a person deeply on the spectrum, to develop his voice and embodied presence. Diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at almost two-years old, E. received the full spectrum of services Early Intervention…
developmental milestone is a great celebration. Students are eager to learn every day. Learning through play, and addressing all modalities leads to student success. The last question that I asked Mrs. Lozano was to identify at least three challenges of teaching this age level.…
The article I have chosen to read was Disappearing Act by Michael Gurian. This article specifically focused on how the male attendance at universities and higher learning institutions has changed dramatically over the years. For example, up until the late 1800’s women were not able to further their education. Perhaps the author wrote this article because he wanted to bring it to the audience’s attention about how the drop in male attendance has been increasing over the past couple years. But in order to get a better understanding we will first discuss issues that can be seen from the early school years, then we will look at what the universities and institutes were like then and finally, we will see what the universities and institutes look…
Academic Interventions The procedures and process in a Head Start A formal developmental screening is performed to determine if sensory, behavioral and developmental skills are progressing as expected or if there are causes of concern and for further evaluation. It is the teacher's job to suggest the need for an in-depth evaluation. Head Start programmed screens all newly admitted students with the Brigance Screening Tool within 45 days of a child’s entry into our program. The teacher analyzes the screening form on each child’s strengths and to develop an individualized plan in all areas of development.…
Additionally, a major source of dissatisfaction stemmed from parents “perception of the lack of knowledge about ASD among school staff and administrators” (p.211). Interestingly, this point could lead to the other dissatisfactions mentioned by the parents. If school staff knew about ASDs they may be more capable of helping the child and ensuring all their needs are met, emotionally and educationally. Therefore potentially decreasing the amount of aggressive outbursts, and increasing their positive experiences in a mainstream setting. Jordan et al.…
The early identification of children with autism spectrum disorder is important and an essential public health need. Screening tool for autism in two year olds has been developed to screen for autism spectrum disorder in children between 24 and 35 months of age. The screening tool for autism in two year olds consists of items that cover motor imitation, play skills, requesting, and defecting attention. In additional, screening tool for autism in two year olds identifies young and toddlers kids who may have autism spectrum disorder and kids who should be referred for complete evaluation. Early interventions help intensively and early difference with the kids who have autism spectrum disorder and children who appear to have the early signs from…
If a child is suspected to have a developmental delay they will be evaluated. These skills are age related and will vary by age. The evaluations will take place in such areas as gross motor skills, which encompasses the usage of large muscle groups for movement. These movements include walking, running, and sitting. Gross motor skills are also important for balance.…
Inclusive Education: To start off, I will touch on inclusive education. We have children whom have special needs which can be internal or external reasons, for barriers to learning. Therefore inclusive education means that every single child and learner has the right and must be accepted into the main stream of education. This would also include elder learners whom have not completed their education and so wish to come back to school to learn and finish what they have or haven’t started. Inclusive education is to promote equal opportunities to each learner therefore the main focus should be aimed at the diverse needs of the learner population.…
