Mayra Cantu is board certified by the American Association of Diabetes Educators in advanced diabetes management. She graduated from the University of Texas Pan American in May 2014. Mayra is practicing as a Nurse practitioner at the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Doctor Hospital at Renaissance. She has a great passion, she loves to help others, and she is willing to provide the best help for one. Diabetes is a chronic condition that results in having too much glucose/sugar in our body. Their two main types of Diabetes. Type 1, our pancreases make too little or no insulin. One needs to take care of themselves no one is going to take care of you, it is up to one to make a difference by watching what we eat and making the right choice of heating healthy and exercising. I was shocked by the reaction of the people that were around me. They were very surprised, many people where asking questions and they were very interesting, for example I remember a lady asking. “If we take care of our self’s right now, will we still be at a high risk of being diagnosed with diabetes in the future?” In my opinion the speaker did a great job, she was very nice by answering all the questions that were being asked. She also was very informative she opened roads that one didn’t know about by giving her presentation. I also saw by the way that she presented and talked to us, that she has a passion for what studied. Mayra made things look simple when it came to explaining how things function in our body. I like these types of events because they inform us students about the things we need to take care of to be healthy. If I could I would encourage all STC students and faculty to go to these types of
