As an instructor, there should be an understanding of how adults learn. Adult learners bring experiences and self-awareness to learning that younger learners do not. To understand adult learning, an instructor should understand learning domains, learning styles, and how and why adults learn (Riding & Rayner, 2013). These learning domains include: cognitive (thinking), affective (emotion/feeling), and psychomotor (physical/kinesthetic). Consideration of the adult learning techniques when developing a training program can help facilitate acquisition and mastering of this new knowledge (Neidorf, 2012). By matching teaching strategies with learning styles, this maximizes educational effectiveness for the learner. A quick and simple pre-test with multiple questions will be given to determine each individual’s unique learning style at the beginning of each class. An assessment of the patient 's learning style is a fundamental step prior to beginning any educational activity (Neidorf, 2012).
