Non-discriminatory practice
Firstly, I am going to elaborate on what non-discriminatory is and how we good give practice in this care home. In this care home equality and diversity are very important as we aim to ensure that we continue with the excellent care we are giving to our residents. Non-discriminatory is good practice within the care setting, this can include ensuring that all our residents receive the same care, although adapting it to their individual needs and no matter who they are we should continue to give them the care they need and deserve. Adapting care can be things such as diet, access and support.
Access may need to be altered so it allows every resident to access all parts of the home, this can include ensuring there are ramps or another way to access the area, in this care home we have ensured that all of the doorways are wide enough for a wheelchair to fit through. For example, in this care home we didn’t have handles along the corridors, an elderly lady who had a stroke and was unable to use her left arm, so she couldn’t use the Zimmer frame so we had to install handles so she was able to hold on while she was independently walk to the toilet or the day
