After the continued deaths related to drinking and driving, it was determined that people did not know what they did not know. It was then that Mothers Against Drunk Drivers was founded. As I mentioned on my previous paper, it was founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver who was released on bail due to a hit and run just two days prior. This fine organization took it upon itself to educate the public on the consequences of drinking and driving. Not only the judicial side of things, but also how it affects others. MADD’s commitment to eliminate drinking and driving is well documented. Since MADD was founded in 1980, more than 25,000 people were killed in drunk driving crashes each year. Since then, we 've been able to cut that deadly toll in half, but there is still more work to be done (madd.org). This progress would have not been accomplished if society was not educated on the subject. Now that they know the facts, and consequences, it is easier for people to make the right choice. We no longer lack the knowledge of the consequences of drinking and driving, and we also know the dangers of it. Yet, when we experience drinking and driving by one close friend, we tend to downplay the seriousness of its consequences and dangers. And more often than not we fail to stop it, or even try to prevent it. This perspective may also argue that we may also feel as doing the wrong thing is “ok” just because others are doing it and getting away with it. Interactionists also address the way we drunk drivers are branded and how society reacts to them. A good example is the US Army. If a Soldier gets charged with a DUI, he is automatically initiated for separation. Once separation is initiated, the Soldier is labeled as a screw up. Not many Soldiers want to be associated with this Soldier because they do not want to labeled, too. In my opinion, this is the perspective the second best dealing with drinking and
