This first part provides a brief overview of dysfunctional families. The second mentions three different types of dysfunctional families. The third cites that there is no negative significant difference in dysfunctional families, backed up by the data we gathered through survey. The final part presents interview with psychologists regarding their opinion and views on dysfunctional families. Neglectful parents are those who fail to provide adequate emotional support for their children. Similarly, they are also unable to provide the financial and basic physical care for their children need. Just like emotional abuse, emotional neglect can be damaging to students. According to our survey data, it shows that students with neglectful parents have a tendency to feel more independent and that they perform poorly in school. Majority of them also feel insecure about the state of their family and claim that revolting against authority is a result of living in a broken home. However, majority of them claim that they have no financial problems despite having neglectful parents.
Though supposed effects of dysfunctional families among mental health professionals, news articles, books, and dramatic movies are not applicable in second year psychology students.
