As quality of life decreases, self esteem will also decrease which will result in an increase in severity. Those in the control group should show a slight decrease in self esteem and quality of life through school age to adolescent; however it should not be significant as it already occurs naturally.
Methods
Participants
147 participants with eczema will be required for this study. This value was chosen based on averaging the number of participants from past studies mentioned in the introduction. The control group will also have the same amount of participants as they will be matched based on age and demographics.
Participants in the eczema group will be recruited through recommendations from their general practitioner. As well as recommendations, research flyers will be placed in the waiting rooms of general practices. Advertisement flyers will also be placed in early childhood care centres, primary schools and high schools. These flyers would be placed in the school’s health care centre as well as on their notice boards and newsletters.

Those who meet the criteria will have to be fluent in English and have to have had eczema since early childhood. The exclusion criteria for this study are that participants must not have; other skin condition or dermatitis, clinically significant and diagnosed mental health illness such as depression, any cognitive disabilities and chronic medical conditions that affects their everyday functioning and quality of life. By excluding participants who has other skin condition as well as the other exclusion criteria it allows for a more accurate result as there are no interference from other diseases or conditions to act as a third variable that may have an influence on their
