The United States emerged between 1865 and 1920 and helped shape people 's way of life. Industrialization did improve American life in some ways. However, it also created issues. The United States ups and downs had a major effect on the changing in society. It modified how the common man or woman lived and the way they earned money to provide for their family. Industrialization, after the Civil War, affected the United States in numerous approaches which including agriculture, manufacturing, wages, and transportation.

The United States changed from nation to an urban one. As populations grew, the demand raised the prices of land, which gave owners greater incentive to grow upward than outward (Rosenow, 2015, p.8). Classes separated into high society, middle class, and working class. Some urban problems that began were city living posed threats such as crime, violence, disease, etc. Many of the Americans blamed the immigrants for the increase in crimes when coming over through New York 's Ellis Island (Schultz, 2014, p.315-316).
