She works with child who have cancer. She is very thoughtful, plays with the children, and gives them pain medicine in the prescribe dosage to help them feel more relaxed. She has volunteered on many days to work overtime, due to lack of nurses, earning her the employee of the month.
Recently, Becky hurt her lower lumbar back region due to lifting heavy objects during her move to a new house. She attempted to work, but struggled to “straighten up” her body posture after sitting in a chair for several minutes. She continued to work for two weeks, but the pain became so unbearable that she decided to go to her family doctor.
When Becky went to the family doctor, he took x-rays and found out that she had a herniated disk. The doctor then said she needed to have surgery which would put her out of work for at least three months. The operation was successful and the surgeon put Becky on morphine to ease the pain. The HR supervisor talked about the contract policy about immediate termination. The behavioral health supervisor mentioned the symptoms and problems dealing morphine addiction. Becky’s supervisor discussed Becky’s outstanding work performance with evaluation documents to prove it. Becky admitted to her failure, asked for forgiveness and her job back. The unit steward finished his case when he read the second chance clause in the contract. Ted Dibase reviewed all the testimonial evidence and used his life experiences to come to a conclusion (three day suspension without pay) in favor of Becky. I came to this conclusion because sometimes a person can have an addiction that can be cured with he proper rehabilitation. Also, there are a lack of nurses in the United States, and a hard worker is not easy to
