The book and the film both intend to demonstrate the cold and harsh journey that takes away lives of child immigrants. Crashed down by life, Enrique gave in to temptation and became a drug addict. The author utilizes Enrique’s struggle to reunite with his mother and search for his mother by means to convey the intricate hardships that these kids are facing. On the other hand, the film creates a boarder perspective of the journey by engaging stories of children who started their journeys for various reasons and from different circumstances. Some start their journey hoping for a reunion with their parents in the United States, some are desperate for a job to better their living condition, some wishes to gain a chance to be loved and be adopted. For different reasons, these children risk their lives and step on the daunting journey through Mexico to the United States.
