The human body is 3 quarts of water. Water is essential to sustain life on all levels. New York City is covered with nearly 1,850 miles of shoreline, thousands of lakes, rivers, and others waterways. Protecting our water resources is critical to New York 's economy, environment, and health. NYC has made progress within our ocean and waterways controlling pollution, however, they are still plagued by widespread pollution; fisheries, marine habitat destruction and the drinking water system (NRDC, 2015). Industrial plants, in some cases, were located relatively close or within low-income neighborhoods which waste was discarded in the ground, which ended up infiltrating …show more content…
In my opinion, educators first need to understand the process of the water and its steps. Water pollution can stem from the water cycle. When sediments do not evaporate into the air, they settle into the ground which is later absorbed into the soil. During the process of the water cycle, water travels through the soil which is how most waterways get polluted. This should be covered. This introduces water pollution in a basic manner that is easily understood and is relative to a community. Students can get more hands on and list the things they know already about water pollution. Followed by open discussions about their own community environments and writing down the things they have learned. The class could then share as a whole something they learned about water pollution. Learning early can help to motivate early methods of prevention. The proper storage and disposal of waste products is a priority
